Carbon Nanotubes Could Make Efficient Solar Cells
Posted on September 11, 2009 at 03:06:13 pm
Using a carbon nanotube instead of traditional silicon, Cornell researchers have created the basic elements of a solar cell that should lead to much more efficient ways of converting light to electricity than now used in calculators and on rooftops.

Tumors Feel The Deadly Sting Of Nanobees
Posted on August 31, 2009 at 10:30:33 pm
When bees sting, they pump poison into their victims. Now the toxin in bee venom has been harnessed to kill tumor cells by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

For Your Eye Only
Posted on August 26, 2009 at 09:22:23 am
Tiny LEDs built into lenses will project images in front of users wearing the lenses, allowing them to see labels and text, as Arnold Schwarzenegger did in the Terminator movies.

New Material For Nanoscale Computer Chips
Posted on August 24, 2009 at 09:16:40 am
New data from Chinese-Danish collaboration shows that organic nanoscale wires could be an alternative to silicon in computer chips.

Painless 'Microneedle' Patch To Take Sting Out Of Shots
Posted on August 21, 2009 at 08:05:57 am
Painless patch may someday render hypodermic needles, as well as annual flu shots, a thing of the past.

Nanotechnology To Find Early Signs Of Cancer
Posted on August 19, 2009 at 05:55:37 pm
Using tiny crystals called quantum dots, Johns Hopkins researchers have developed a highly sensitive test to look for DNA attachments that often are early warning signs of cancer.

US Paper Money Contains Traces Of Cocaine
Posted on August 17, 2009 at 10:31:19 am
You probably have cocaine in your wallet, purse, or pocket. Sound unlikely or outrageous? Think again! In what researchers describe as the largest, most comprehensive analysis to date of cocaine contamination in banknotes.

Nanodiamonds deliver insulin for wound healing
Posted on July 27, 2009 at 09:58:01 am
Bacterial infection is a major health threat to patients with severe burns and other kinds of serious wounds such as traumatic bone fractures. Recent studies have identified an important new weapon for fighting infection and healing wounds.

'Invisibility Cloak' Could Protect Against Earthquakes
Posted on July 20, 2009 at 09:28:07 am
Research at the University of Liverpool has shown it is possible to develop an 'invisibility cloak' to protect buildings from earthquakes.

Nanopillars Promise Cheap, Efficient Solar
Posted on July 10, 2009 at 01:12:04 pm
New design grows optically active semiconductors in arrays of nanoscale pillars, each a single crystal, with dimensions measured in billionths of a meter.
